Position: Database Engineer

General Objectives:

The Database Engineer is responsible for leading and delivering quality solutions based on the business needs.  This position works on all aspects of the solution lifecycle including proposals, analysis, design, requirements, customization, development, quality assurance, release management, and support.

This position provides advice and consultation to business owners and team members during the planning, design, and analysis phases for new and existing business solutions.  This position also provides a leading role as a member on cross functional teams.

 

Nature and Scope of Position:

   This position reports to the Director of Business Solutions.

•  This is a full-time, exempt position that at times, provides additional hours to meet the needs of the business and requires minimal travel.

    Is capable of working both independently and as part of multiple teams to lead and deliver successful solutions which meet the business needs of the organization.

    Encourages & contributes to a positive team dynamic.

    Proactively addresses problems to reduce risk to the organization.

   Thinks creatively and brings new ideas about solutions that meet the business needs. 

   Provides quality support to customers of business solutions.

• Communicates clearly internally and externally with customers including Casey technical and non-technical staff, Casey Management, Casey field offices, and third-party solution vendors with the following goals:

              o Assisting customers in identifying business needs to define appropriate business solutions

              o Representing customer needs internally to the department.

                     Promoting existing solutions to meet business needs where appropriate.

              o Establishing measurable milestones, identification of shared objectives and issues that cross groups within T.S.

               Assisting customers towards having positive interactions with the department.  

                           Establishing and maintaining positive, supportive, and effective working relationships with colleagues and customers. 

                 Participating in developing, supporting, and meeting the department Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1. Leads and participates in the scoping, planning, scheduling, estimation, analysis, design, integration, implementation, customization, and maintenance of technical business solutions such as SharePoint web sites, Data warehouses, and custom Dot.Net applications, etc.

2. Leads and participates in the evaluation and selection of business solutions and products to meet the business data needs, including integrating new developments into existing technical standards and platforms.

3. Leads and advises individuals, teams, departments, and customers on technical possibilities, limitations, and impact to scope, schedule, and cost of providing business solutions for data.

4. Is responsible for developing and documenting physical and logical models that reflect Casey’s requirements in an effort provide business-centered frameworks for presenting and reviewing Casey’s information needs.

5. Provides support for database solutions including designing database solutions that are integrated and meet the business needs.

6. Creates and maintains technical standards consistent with business specifications.

7. Is responsible for training and mentoring team members and other Casey staff in the use of technologies.

8. Is responsible for troubleshooting core-business applications to resolve issues, including performance problems.

9. Demonstrates strong technical skills and acts as subject matter expert in design, and development of solutions based on Microsoft technologies including MS SQL Server/Analysis Services, SharePoint, DotNet, and SQL Reporting Services, etc.

10.Participates as a lead project team member in the delivery of business solutions and services where they work collaboratively with the business on the design, usability, and scalability of solutions.

11. Work with TS Infrastructure to design and implement data security, database backup, data migration processes and procedures including assisting in operational requirements.

12. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.      Understands and adheres to code of ethics and practice for functional area.  Ensures alignment with organizational values, goals, and directives in all work performed.

13. Acts as a good steward of Casey resources – in expenses/funding, but also in labor hours in applying appropriate amounts of resources to each project.  Looks for ways to maximize effective communications with cost and effort leveraged.

14. Ensures adherence to Casey policies in all matters of practice, contracts, communications, resources, personnel and reporting.

15. Works on projects and performs other duties as assigned.

  

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience architecting integrated solutions is required.  A BS or BA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field is preferred, including a minimum of 5 year professional work experience.

The position requires demonstrated skills in the majority of the following; software architecture, design and development (SharePoint, SQL Server/Analysis Services, HTML, ProClarity, XML, ASP.net, C# and other DotNet technology), software implementation (SharePoint, Content Management, Assessments, Finance, Data Warehouse, and Business Intelligence) based on Microsoft technologies.  Strong communication skills and the ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively on technical subjects to technical and non-technical audiences are essential.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, flexible, adaptable to change, and is able to contribute to continuous quality improvement by identifying and recommending improvements to the services and support provided by the individual, team, and department.  

This position requires attention to detail, as well as strong organizational, analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, critical thinking, judgment, ability to meet deadlines, and high quality customer service are required.  The ability to collaborate with a team of professionals and manage projects and tasks are essential in this position. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively under pressure and in stressful circumstances. A balance of assertiveness and diplomacy is critical, as well as effective negotiating and listening skills.

Must pass a criminal background check.  In the event of Casey business that requires use of a personal vehicle, must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and proof of insurance.

 Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; ability to type utilizing a computer keyboard; ability to travel to outside locations; the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function; ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; occasionally carry up to 25 pounds; sit and stand frequently while completing tasks; walk, climb, bend and kneel and crouch occasionally; and the ability to do frequent overhead and shoulder-level reaching, pushing, pulling and grasping.
