Overview:
The Senior Director - Human Resources (HR) is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and administration of employment, compensation, benefits, performance management, HRIS, recruitment, and employee relations systems throughout Casey. Special emphasis is on centralized functions in HQ and systems developed for all of Casey, such as benefits, compensation, and performance management, as well as regulatory compliance.
Nature and Scope of Position:
· This position reports to the HR Officer.
· This is a full-time, regular, exempt position that requires travel up to 15-20% of the time.
· This position supervises assigned HR staff.
· This position will regularly interface with senior and executive management, the Board of Trustees, and management and staff throughout Casey. Additionally, this position manages vendors, consults with attorneys, and identifies resources outside of Casey that will assist in implementing and administering successful HR practices.
· This position is expected to develop and maintain current knowledge of pertinent issues related to Human Resources, in terms of both management trends as well as regulatory changes.
· This position has both a strong internal service level and systems/project management component. The director acts as advisor to management on personnel issues, while maintaining overall systems to support HR functions.
· Driving on Casey business requires adherence to the Vehicle Safety Guidelines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Acts as internal consultant and advisor to management on Human Resource issues.
2. Builds and maintains HR systems that promote Casey’s strategic directions and mission; responsible for alignment of HR practices with organization’s goals.
3. Responsible for Recruitment efforts within headquarters, with special consideration for management searches of regional or national scope.
4. Ensures competitive practices in compensation and benefits within the parameters of business strategy and organization resources.
5. Responsible for the Health and Welfare programs provided to Casey staff; member and/or chair of the Employee Benefits Committee.
6. Responsible for salary administration, salary structure maintenance, as well as salary grades; ensures analysis and updates to grades, titles, and job descriptions as needed.
7. Responsible for resolution and recording of significant personnel issues, such as involuntary terminations, grievances, and complaints; provides confidential, professional counseling in sensitive matters; ensures appropriate notification and interaction with legal, senior management, and the Board of Trustees, as needed.
8. Oversees application of HR guidelines and systems through HR staff and consultation.
9. Oversees compliance with EEO, Department of Labor, IRS and other regulatory agencies with regard to employment, compensation, and benefits.
10. Provide supervision, direction and coaching to those in the HR department, including following the steps in the HR System and offering feedback to subordinates on performance and growth; sets aside time for quality supervision.
11. Provides development opportunities for staff, challenges, and encourages professional growth in the department.
12. Understands and adheres to code of ethics and practice for functional area. Ensures alignment with organizational values, goals, and directives in all work performed.
13. Acts as a good steward of Casey resources – in expenses/funding, but also in labor hours in applying appropriate amounts of resources to each project. Looks for ways to maximize effective communications with cost and effort leveraged.
14. Ensures adherence to Casey policies in all matters of practice, contracts, communications, resources, personnel and reporting.
15. Works on projects, acts as committee member, and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree along with 7 years of professional HR experience required; history of progressively increasing responsibility in supervision/management in Human Resources; experience in establishment and maintenance of HR Systems (e.g. performance management, health and welfare benefits, compensation) required.
Demonstrated knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance as related to HR, and benefits administration required; successful management of HR programs in an organization of similar size and geographic diversity to Casey is preferred. Demonstrated success in recruitment required.
Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Office products is important; knowledge and application of HRIS systems (especially Ceridian) desired.
Demonstrated leadership in direct supervision, as well as indirect supervision through coaching is highly desired; proven effective management of HR office with successful outcomes and solid organizational trust is highly desired; flexibility, critical thinking, and priority setting are key competencies in this position.
Must pass a criminal background check. In the event of Casey business that requires use of a personal vehicle, must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and proof of insurance.
