Richard E. Leigh

Seattle-area corporate attorney and business leader Richard Leigh currently serves as legal consultant and advisor to Vulcan Inc. and provides legal advice and consulting to corporate and nonprofit clients. On behalf of Vulcan, Leigh spearheaded the successful acquisition of the Rose Garden Arena for the NBA Portland Trail Blazers.

Previously, Leigh was executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTI), a biopharmaceutical company. There he led the legal affairs department in all corporate legal matters, including governance and compliance.

Before joining CTI, Leigh managed the legal department for Vulcan Inc. As general counsel, Leigh structured and monitored corporate governance and securities compliance programs, and developed and implemented a code of ethics for the company. 

Leigh was also the first-ever general counsel for the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL (a Vulcan affiliate), where he engaged in players' and coaches' contracts, advertising/corporate sponsorship agreements, intellectual property protection, human resources management and other administrative matters.

He spent eight years as a corporate attorney with the Seattle law firm of Foster Pepper & Shefelman, PLLC, where he was a partner.

Leigh earned his B.A. in both History and Hispanic Studies from Brown University, and an M.A. in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He also holds a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Active in the community, Leigh serves on the board of trustees of the Flying Heritage Collection, a museum housing Paul Allen’s private collection of world-class 20th century military aviation. He has also served on the boards of the Seattle Seahawks Charitable Foundation, the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Seattle Association, the Association of Washington Business, and the King County Baseball Park Commission.

Richard Leigh joined Casey Family Programs’ board of trustees in April 2008.
