Alexandra McKay
Executive Vice President and Chief Program Counsel

Alexandra Kim McKay joined Casey Family Programs in 2003.  As chief program counsel, she is responsible for providing legal guidance to the foundation in order to achieve compliance with legal, tax, licensing, accreditation, child welfare, risk management and best business practice requirements.
                      
Career highlights
Under her leadership, the legal department develops and negotiates national, tribal, state and local collaboration agreements as well as agreements for the provision of services, research agreements, collaborative agreements and grants, and participation agreements with states in which the organization is licensed to provide services to children and youth.  Ms. McKay’s team provides counsel on legal matters including intellectual property, advocacy, child and family, safety, tax and records request issues, licensing and accreditation requirements.

Prior to joining Casey Family Programs, Ms. McKay was an attorney with the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights. She worked with public elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools on various matters, including the disproportionate discipline of minorities in schools, Title IX compliance, and discrimination on the basis of race, disability and gender. She participated in a national network to address the issue of overrepresentation of minorities in special education and worked on collaborations focused on violence prevention and anti-harassment. 

Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, Ms. McKay worked in private practice with corporate and nonprofit clients in the areas of intellectual property and corporate transactional matters.  

Ms. McKay has a law degree from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. She received a postgraduate law degree (LL.M.) in Sustainable International Development and a certificate for the Advanced Study of Intellectual Property from the University of Washington.

Public service, honors and professional affiliations
Ms. McKay is vice president of the board of Town Hall Seattle, a former executive board member of the Washington Lawyers for the Arts, and is a member of the Loren Miller, Washington State and King County Bar Associations. She was the recipient of the 2002 Federal Executive Board Public Service Award for her contributions to the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights.
