Casey Family Programs’ San Diego field office has supported this largely urban county of 3 million people since 1993.
Most of the children we serve live with foster families. Others are in the care of relatives, in what is known as kinship care.
Become a foster parent!
We are currently recruiting foster parents interested in caring for youth, ages 11–18. To learn more please contact our family developer at (619) 543-0774, extension 31218.
Forever families
Our goal is to help foster youth secure a permanent family environment. Foster families are encouraged to adopt or obtain legal guardianship for the child in their homes. They also help youth connect with other important people in their lives, such as extended family members and mentors.
Our emphasis on permanent families is a key part of Casey Family Programs’ 2020 Strategy, which seeks to safely reduce by 50 percent the number of children in foster care by the year 2020.
We work to educate state representatives and other policy makers about the importance of safely reducing the number of children in foster care and creating paths to permanency for those who do enter care.
Preparing for adulthood
Casey Family Programs is committed to supporting youth as they make the transition into adulthood and helping them reach their employment, vocational, and educational goals.
Our office building is also home to the Youth and Family Transition Center. The center is a place where current and former foster youth can come to connect with programs, services and people that will help them as they transition to life on their own.
Equity and diversity
In San Diego County, one-third of the residents are Latino, half are Caucasian, 15–20 percent are African American, and 5–10 percent are Asian American. Casey Family Programs works to achieve equality for all youth of color in foster care.
