In operation since 1972, our Idaho field office in Boise touches the lives of youth in foster care and their families throughout Idaho—from cities to rural ranch communities to the Nez Perce Reservation.

Casey Family Programs provides direct services and case management for youth and foster families in a 75-mile radius of Boise.

We primarily serve children and teens who have been removed from their birth parents due to protection or neglect issues. Our focus is on settling them into permanent homes and preparing them to live independently at age 18.

Collaborating to serve more youth
We also collaborate with the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare and the Nez Perce Tribe to improve out-of-home care for youth.

In doing so, Casey stays abreast of key issues and shares resources and best practices to serve more children.

Making the system work better for children
We also work with the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare to improve the state’s public child-welfare system.

One example is our work with Family and Children’s Services to develop a statewide Kinship Care Collaborative. Goals include involving appropriate stakeholders to:

  • Use extended family resources to avoid foster care where families are under stress and at risk for having their children removed.
  • Re-institute family-centered practice and some form of family group decision-making into state practice.
