Foster care and forever families
Casey Family Programs' Austin Field Office opened in 1984. Our main focus is to help young people from the public child welfare system find safe and permanent families.

We provide foster care services and work to return or place children in permanent homes with family members or adoptive parents.

We also provide case management, connect youth and families to community services, and help young people make a successful transition to adulthood. The field office serves the city of Austin and surrounding communities in Central Texas.

Become a foster parent!
The Austin Field Office is currently recruiting foster parents interested in caring for youth, ages 11-18. Learn more about becoming a foster parent with Casey Family Programs. If you have more quesitons, or if you would like to begin the application process in the Austin area, please call 512.892.5890.

Services for adolescents
We provide a number of individualized services specifically designed to serve adolescents in the foster care system. These services include:

  • Tutoring
  • Funding for clothing and extracurricular activities
  • Opportunities to apply for Casey's continuing education and job training program
  • Family group conferencing
  • Case management for youth in care
  • Core services (medical, dental, therapy)

Services for transitioning youth
In addition to supporting youth in out-of-home care, we also help young people make the transition from foster care to independent living.

Our after care transitional services are a joint effort of Casey Family Programs, The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, and Lifeworks, a community partner.

Through this partnership, hundreds of young people receive training and support to help them make a successful transition to adulthood.

Kinship care services
More and more children involved with the child welfare system are being placed with members of their extended families instead of entering the foster care system.

For kinship families like these, we offer the Kinship Helpline. We provide families with information about where they can locate community resources like emergency assistance, information about public assistance programs, child support, and legal information.

If you are a kinship family in need of assistance, please call the Kinship Helpline at 1-800-304-6427.

Safely reducing the number of children in foster care
Casey Family Programs 2020 Strategy is committed to working with state, county, and tribal child welfare systems in order to safely reduce the number of children in foster care by 50% by the year 2020.

Casey's Austin Field Office contributes to this goal locally by:

  • Providing services that create safety, permanence and well-being for children and youth
  • Engaging in partnerships with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, juvenile court, and other allied community agencies
  • Addressing the over-representation of children and youth of color in foster care

We also work to educate state representatives and other policy makers about the importance of safely reducing the number of children in foster care and creating paths to permanency for those who do enter care.
