Best prevention practices

Sharing ways to help families stay together

Abuse and neglect are the primary reasons states remove children from their homes and place them in foster care. We can diminish rates of abuse and neglect—and reduce the number of children who enter the foster care system—by supporting financial literacy, education, advocacy, child care, healthcare, job training, safe neighborhoods, and strong communities.

Organizations across the United States are working on these and other ways to help children and youth long before social workers make the decision to remove them from their homes. Casey’s partners include:
  • Community-based organizations involved in activism and advocacy
  • Churches and other faith-based organizations
  • State, county, and tribal agencies
  • Universities

Discovering best practices
Casey Family Programs helps by collecting and evaluating the lessons these organizations have been learning for the last thirty years. Casey spreads the most effective practices across the country, helping communities and child welfare organizations save time and money when they’re trying to solve a problem.

In addition to promoting the best solutions that have a proven record of measurable success, Casey also investigates new and emerging practices supporting prevention.

To refine existing practices and support emerging best practices, Casey holds periodic convenings that bring together experts in prevention from a wide range of professions and disciplines. If you are interested in participating, please contact us.
