In July 2005, Casey held a summit for people who were formerly in foster care. For these foster care alumni, the summit was an opportunity to gather with brothers and sisters. It was also a chance to build capacity for alumni to support each other and those who have come after them in the child welfare system.
A product developed from the summit, this booklet is intended for alumni, child welfare staff, caregivers, and other allies. The booklet:
- Celebrates the accomplishments and efforts of alumni and alumni groups across the country on behalf of youth in care
- Provides context that unifies our many efforts into the larger alumni movement
- Shares resource information for starting and maintaining alumni groups providers and professionals, and public speaking
- Shares the lessons we’ve learned so far about how to both connect with each other and take action to transform the system for those who come after us
The guide was published in 2006 by Casey Family Programs in partnership with Foster Care Alumni of America.
