Young people in foster care less likely to find work
Over 26,000 youth age out of the foster care system each year. Youth who leave foster care are more likely to drop out of high school, to be unemployed and to be dependent on public assistance when compared to other youth.

US Department of Labor addresses the need
To address these issues, the US Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration chose youth in foster care and alumni of care, age 16–21, to be served in a five-state demonstration project.

Sites selected for the project
Published in 2008, these site profiles provide detailed information about the education and employment outcomes youth have experienced in cities funded by the Department of Labor.
