Focus on Foster Care: Youth Employment

Casey’s commitment to helping youth and alumni of care gain employment skills

Youth leaving foster care are more likely to experience unemployment, lack of health insurance, and other barriers to success in the workforce than their peers. Beginning in 2003, Casey sharpened its focus on employment for youth in foster care.

This four-page briefing describes how Casey offers many direct and indirect supports to help youth make positive transitions to adulthood including:

  • It’s My Life: Employment guide
  • The Ansell-Casey Life Skills Assessment (ACLSA)
  • Research on promising and effective employment practices
  • Efforts to improve connections between America’s child welfare and workforce development systems
