Youth in care graduate from high school at disproportionately lower rates than their peers who are not in care. Less than 3% of foster care alumni ever receive a bachelor’s degree or certificate. Education is critical to independent adulthood, but young people in foster care face many circumstances that too often derail their achievement in school.
This four-page briefing describes how Casey aims to improve the educational success of youth in care and alumni of care, by developing:
- K-12 educational tools and resources
- Postsecondary education tools and resources
- National partnerships to raise awareness and affect change
- Direct service strategies to promote educational success
