As the number of young people in foster care has increased, the vast majority of those who have left the system are struggling. Congress passed the John H. Chafee Foster Care Independence Act in 1999, a new law that provides additional supports to young people to prepare them for aging out of foster care. Casey also supports the successful transition of youth to adulthood with a collection of publications, tools, and events including:
- It’s My Life: A Framework for Youth Transitioning from Foster Care to Successful Adulthood
- It’s My Life guides to employment, housing, and postsecondary education and training
- It’s My Life Conference
- Ansell-Casey Life Skills Assessment and supplements
- The Agency Self Assessment
- Frequently Asked Questions I, II, and III
This four-page briefing describes how Casey creates tools and resources directed to transitioning youth and to the professionals, caregivers, legislators, and advisors that directly and indirectly support these youth.
