Casey Family Programs has undertaken a foundation-wide initiative in Prevention and Family Support based on three beliefs:
- Poverty is the primary cause of family instability.
- Whenever possible, birth parents and extended families should raise children.
- Keeping families together is far more cost-effective than supporting youth once they are in foster care.
To better understand the perspectives of parents we seek to support and to build on the existing literature in the field of parenting and family support, Casey conducted focus groups with more than 500 low-income parents in 15 towns and cities across the country.
Issued in Fall 2003, this 16-page report presents findings based on focus groups conducted between December 2002 and March 2003.
