There is rarely one single factor that causes children to be placed in foster care. Trauma, domestic violence, substance abuse, health issues and more all place overlapping pressures on a family’s underlying foundation until the mortar cracks and the bricks begin to tumble. Shoring up those supports — or better yet, preventing them from weakening in the first place — requires more than one kind of intervention.
