National Reunification Month celebrates bringing families together
June is National Reunification Month, a time to recognize the people and efforts around the country that make it possible for families to stay together.
Our founder, Jim Casey, understood the need for strong, supportive families. Our direct service work at Casey Family Programs is family-centered, and we have set a bold goal: to secure a safe, nurturing and permanent family or connection for every young person in our care, whether through reunification with their birth family, adoption or kinship care. We believe:
- Every child deserves a safe, supportive and permanent family.
- Every family should have the support of a strong and caring community.
- Every community can create hope and opportunities for its children and families.
- Everyone has a role to play in building Communities of Hope.
As part of Reunification Month, special events are held around the country to celebrate the determination of parents to bring their children home safely from temporary foster care and the many professionals who support them.
The American Bar Association provides resources about National Reunification Month, including stories about reunification heroes.
The federal Children’s Bureau offers information for parents who are working toward reunification with their children, and there are more resources for families on the National Foster Care Month website as well.
