Casey Family Programs is a partner agency in the Kinship and Adoption Resource and Education (KARE) Family Center, which opened in Tucson in 1983. Our office is co-located at the center with Arizona’s Children Association. The KARE Family Center provides specialized case management and other services to relatives and non-relatives caring for youth, as well as clinical case management for youth and families who need help attaining or maintaining permanency, and for young adults transitioning from foster care. We are part of Casey Family Programs’ Child and Family Services team, which also operates field offices in California, Idaho, Texas and Washington, all focused on the urgent and relentless pursuit of securing lifelong, permanent family connections for every child.

The KARE Family Center team establishes enduring connections for youth and young adults while working alongside Pima County to achieve safe, legal permanency and optimal well-being for all youth we serve. We recruit, train and support resource families to care for older youth (ages 11 to 18), with an emphasis on their role as partners in the effort to achieve legal and relational permanency. We engage extended family to support the youth and families who are involved with the foster care system. We honor the unique culture of each youth and family, including racial and ethnic identity, sexual orientation and gender identity, and religious and spiritual beliefs. We also provide: support groups for grandparents and other relatives, including monolingual Spanish-speaking caregivers; educational forums on court processes, such as guardianship and adoption; and referrals to community resources.

Education is a priority in our work. We provide educational advocacy to ensure youth receive the support they need to achieve their potential and to graduate from high school. We stay involved with many of our youth beyond age 18, supporting them to go on to college and connecting them with scholarships and other community resources to support their success.

We also host events for participating families to celebrate and help strengthen our community so all children and families can thrive.
