Dr. Joia Crear-Perry, founder and president of the National Birth Equity Collaborative, presented at a two-day convening hosted by Casey Family Programs in May 2018, where child welfare leaders and experts came together to share innovative strategies designed to improve child safety and reduce child abuse and neglect fatalities. She discussed this country’s racial health disparities for infants and their mothers and explored how our history of racism, classism, and gender oppression has led to the health inequities we grapple with today. She offered a call to action for providers to actively address bias and racism in their daily work in order to improve health outcomes for children and families.
