Indian child and family well-being
Casey Family Programs partners with American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes across the country to strengthen their capacity to keep children healthy, safe and connected with their families, communities and cultures. We support their development and administration of effective and culturally responsive child welfare and well-being services.
Supporting Tribal Nation capacity, sovereignty and self-governance
Casey Family Programs’ agreements with Tribes honor Tribal sovereignty, support nation-building efforts and help build partnerships with the broader child welfare profession. We implement a variety of national strategies designed to:
- Demonstrate and spread effective and culturally relevant Tribal child well-being practice and policy
- Support Tribes’ capacity to access state and federal funding streams and build their infrastructure to provide necessary services
- Strengthen Tribal and state partnerships and support the effective implementation of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and its gold standard principles of child welfare practice
- Help Tribes with prevention and reunification efforts, connecting children with their families, communities and culture
- Engage Tribal leaders, families and youth as active participants in improving the well-being of families
- Work with partners across the country to provide technical assistance and support on ICWA implementation and Tribally led programming
