Focus

We directly serve youth and families involved in the child welfare system and use that experience to demonstrate and spread strategies that improve child safety and well-being and strengthen families in partnership with state, local and Tribal child welfare systems, courts and community partners.

We support this work with evidence-based, culturally relevant practices that lead to well-functioning child protection systems. For children served by Casey, we seek to:

  • Keep them connected with extended family, kin and other trusted caregivers while in foster care.
  • Improve their well-being outcomes, especially in education, employment and mental health.
  • Ensure every child leaves foster care with a safe, supportive and permanent family through reunification with parents, kinship caregivers, guardianship or adoption, and ensure children maintain connection to their cultural identity.

Opportunity

We can build Communities of Hope where every child has a safe, nurturing and permanent family.

We have the chance to lead a transformation so that systems are able to truly support families and create opportunities for children to reach their full potential, connected to their communities and cultures. Permanency without safety is not acceptable. Neither is safety at the expense of well-being or permanency.

We believe

Every child deserves a safe, strong and permanent family.

We recognize that families know their own challenges and needs and know best how to address them. We meet families where they are and partner with them, alongside systems and communities, to help them develop strengths and discover solutions.

Our horizon is as distant as our mind’s eye wishes it to be.
