An enrolled member of the tribe, Morgan founded Ho-Chunk in 1994. Ho-Chunk and Morgan have been recognized by a variety of national organizations, including: Innovations in Government Award, sponsored by Harvard University and the Ford Foundation; Honoring Nations Award, also sponsored by Harvard; Minority Business Magazine, Entrepreneurial Spirit Award; Distinguished Alumni Speaker, Harvard Law School; Small Business Administration; and the U.S. Department of State. Morgan was named one of People magazine’s most fascinating people in 2002.   

Morgan was selected as a “Champion of Change” by the White House in 2011. In 2012, he was awarded the Nebraska Builder Award by the University of Nebraska, and in 2014 he received the Advocate of the Year Award from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian for over 10 years. 

Morgan is a partner at one of the nation’s leading Native American-owned law firms, Big Fire Law & Policy, and is an adjunct professor at Arizona State Law School.   

Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Nebraska and graduated from Harvard Law School. He is a member of the Minnesota Bar Association. He also has served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
